When I look back on The Scabs at the start of the eighties, I mainly think of DIY independent singles, the tours we arranged ourselves, like the one with Siglo XX, and musical adventures with kindred spirits like the No Big Business compilation album. We quickly realised that punk had become a fashion, and that you needed the right coat and boots in order to fit in, while this went against everything the punk spirit stood for. That’s why we created our own sound pretty quickly, something in between Rock and New Wave. Guy Swinnen
